See p.12 & 13, Meelloodjes, een ‘verborgen’ geschiedenis, B. D. Poppen, "The Steam meal factory of the Widow Kakebeeke in Middelburg. The Kakebeeke family owned a steam meal factory in Goes, called De Vos. She also owned a grain trade, as well as an oyster farm in Yersekendam. The founder of the company is Jan Hendrik Cornelis Ka-kebeeke. After his death in 1872 and his widow in 1881, the children of the couple became the company under the firm of Widow J.H.C. Kakebeeke Gz. From 1881 it became possible in the Netherlands to register and deposit factory and trademarks for Dutch and foreign products. In 1884 the company Kakebeeke had its mark described, which was listed in the Dutch Government Gazette on 1 September 1884. The last paragraph of the report states: This mark, placed on one side of the bales containing the goods, includes also the letters FB, on the other side of the bales, which are closed with a lead, mentioning on one side K Goes and on the other FB. In December 1888 the factory De Vos was completely destroyed by a fire. Because of the more favorable location on the canal through Walcheren, Middelburg was chosen for the reconstruction of the flour factory. The staff moved with it. The new steam roll mill with accompanying silo was established in 1889. (The Vlissingse Courant of May 31, 1895 mentions: We write from Middelburg - The steam roll mill of the firm wed. JHC Kakebeeke and Son, here), The flour mill was severely damaged in 1944 by war and subsequently demolished. The silo endured the violence and is still on the canal."
