Cloth Seal, Cloth Worker's Personal Seal, Heraldic Device, Boar, 1575~1700
Cloth Seal, IF, Animal, Image by StuE, Found by Nasher.
Found near Baldock, Hertfordsire, 22mm, 10.3g.
IF above spiky haired animal with long ears and a curly tail. Could be a pig or a rodent (rat?). The snout is missing it harder to categorise. The reverse has several lines scratched into it.
Distinctive design that may be further identified in the future.
The style matches those known to be used by clothiers, weavers and searchers to demark cloths they have worked on. See Figs. 33 & 34, Geoff Egan,'Lead cloth seals and related items in the B.M. (B.M.occ.papers 93)'
