Cloth Seal, YEO, 1642 onward
Cloth Seal Yeovil, 1642, Image & Found by Bilox.
Found in Yorkshire.
Four part cloth alnage seal, inner discs have a border of pellets - H over CLOTH over 1642 on one side and and a horse?, with YEO below on the other (with the help of another seal of this type).
Info from Flinty, "I think it may be a sailcloth seal from Yeovil, Somerset ... Around the time of the Civil War, Yeovil was producing (and was renowned for), some of the finest sailcloth and linen in England. A hundred years later, Yeovil cloth was a thing of the past - and the production of superior (and pricey) gloves had become a speciality."
If this is a seal from Yeovil dated 1642 then it was lucky to escape being melted down for use as a musket ball as it was a very active time for the Civil War in that area. See 1642: Civil War in the South-West
