Roman Lead Seal, Two Figures Shaking Hands, Image & Held by Steven James Lamb.
Found in Europe, ?mm, £.6g.
Two figures shaking hands // blank (domed outward)
From the holder, "Roman seal: this is a new subject to me, but what I think is going on is that a merchant (on the left), wearing a long robe, is sending sealed goods, and is seen here asking the goddess Fortuna, the draped figure holding a cornucopia (on the right), to bless his transaction. The merchant appears to be sitting on a pointy stool.
I don't know what the pellets mean, if anything. There appears to be a "V" between the two figures. Pb, 3.60gm, circa 3rd/4th C CE"
