Wire or Metalwork Seal, DLG, Tree

Wire or Metalwork Seal, DLG, Tree, Image & Found by Nick Blight.
Found in North Devon, 29mm.

Single disc with small loop at the top. D / LG with pellets and star or flower head pattern, possibly more lettering above, wreath like foliate design curving up sides // possibly a bifurcated tree with two crowns in it, wreath like foliate design curving up sides.

This is the same type of seal that has been identified as being a wire or thread seal from the Continent. See Geoff Egan, Lead Cloth Seals and Related Items in the British Museum Occasional Paper 93, p.122 and PAS LON-9485E4.

Here is an interesting link showing the seals still attached to bundles of wire (rods) from a, probable 17th century, ship wreck, Terschelling and Schat aangespoeld op Terschelling.

From, Jan van Oostveen, "seal is from Sweden, LDG is the abbriviation of Louis de Geer."

See Louis de Geer (1587–1652), Wikipedia.
