Found in Hurley, NY, USA, 35 x 20mm, 8.9g.

"This was dug at 1660's stone house in Hurley, NY. LEPAGE'S R.C. CO. SIGNET.1 3/8" high, 3/4" wide, weighs 8.9 grams. looking for purpose, possible value and date of use. any info you have is appreciated."

This interesting find looks to have a seal at the top but is actually just a handle for the stopper and applicator from a tube of glue. The 'cross piece' is the top of the tube with traces of yellow on one side from the missing container.

The Russian Cement company was the owner of the signet ink name and the LePage's Glue brand. Signet Inks came on the market in 1913. The formula for LePage's Glue dates into the 1880s. (From BottleBooks.Com.)

1977, LePage´s acquires the Poly Decorating Product line.
1979, LePage´s adds 50,000 square foot, state-of-the-art shipping facilities.
1996 (July), Henkel Canada acquires Canadian Adhesives Ltd., increasing sales by $12 mm/year. It merges with LePage.
The Resilacrete line is discontinued and branded as LePage Poly.
1997 (January), Henkel Germany acquires the Loctite Corporation. The Consumer Division is now part of Loctite, U.S., North American Group headquartered in Rocky Hill, Connecticut.
1998 (January), Henkel Germany acquires major interest of Manco Inc. in the U.S.
The Bondfast Company is dissolved. Future U.S. LePage sales will be carried by Manco.
1998 (July), Henkel Germany acquires complete interest in Manco Inc.

The 21st Century
2002, Manco and LePage change their names to Henkel Consumer Adhesives and Henkel Canada Corporation, Consumer Adhesives, respectively.
2005, Henkel Acquires OSI expanding LePage's product offerings and technologies
2008, Henkel Acquires the Adhesives and Electronic Materials businesses previously owned by National Starch. By acquiring these businesses, Henkel substantially further strengthened its leading position in the global adhesives markets, particularly in the industrial segments.
