From the Hastings & St Leonards Observer 14 February 1874, “Morton & Co’s., Horse and Cattle Food Manufacturers, Queens Buildings, Hastings, beg to draw the attention of Gentlemen, Farmers at the present season, to their food which gives general satisfaction in the Stable and Stock Yard. Morton & Co take this opportunity of thanking their many patrons for their support and hope for a continuity of the same. NB None are genuine unless bearing our Trade Mark (Horse Shoe enclosing animals’ heads and the initials E.M.L.) stamped largely on each bag and sealed with a LEADEN SEAL bearing our name and address …….
