Cloth Seal, Anne, Alnage, Three Lions, 1702 onwards, Image & Found by Kevin Mud Mammal Dyer.
Found on Thames Foreshore, 15mm.
Missing // ornate shield bearing three lions, 1 1/2 to sides // head of Queen Anne facing left, FIDEI. (DEFEN?) // missing
The inner discs from a four-disc alnage seal of Anne. The central image has had the bent over connecting strip moved to reveal the final figure of the 1 1/2 penny alnage fee.
The inscription is most probably Fedei Defen for defender of the faith, a common inscription on other monarch's seals but this is the first example on Anne's cloth seals known here.
