A French flour bag seal.

From Philippe Lanez, "Don was set up as a municipality on June 5th, 1948, previously, it was a hamlet of Annoeullin. The crossing by the channelled River Deƻle led prosperity of the place and the presence of numerous factories. This, encouraged population (three kilometres self-centred with the city of Annoeullin which they depended) to ask for establishment of Don as a municipality.
Origins of the name:- In XIIIth century was created a rather wide river with the aim of bringing waters to the city of Lille. It was then necessary to build a bridge to allow the inhabitants to cross it. This bridge was built in a short time thanks to the donations of people living around. This generosity was a subject of discussion and in all the region this bridge was called: " THE BRIDGE of DONS (donations) ". This name "DON (DONATIONS)" was given to the urban area which formed on both sides of the bridge. In the last century, "DONS"("DONATIONS") became "DON"("DONATION") as known nowadays; in the church sacristy, you can find two old copper trays, on which "DON" i1758 is engraved."

Daniel Slowik has provided this connection - Nord Moulins de Don showing it undoubtedly to be a flour bag seal.
