Cloth Seal, German, Ulm, Ox

Cloth Seal, German, Ulm, Ox, Image & Found by Chris Bursnall.
Found in Leicestershire, 21mm.

Demi-ox with V above head // shield per fess, in chief 4x2 lattice with pellets in each void, in base blank

Cloth seal stamped with the front half an ox with V above, probably for Ulm. The shield bears the arms of Ulm in Germany, where the black is represented by the lattice.

Fustians from Swabia (which includes Ulm and Augsburg) are reported as having four types of quality symbols stamped on their seals, an ox, a lion, a grape or a letter [Baur, K., 2015, p.154].
