This seed merchants company was said to have been established by Charles Sharpe in his hometown of Sleaford, Lincolnshire in 1888. After his death in 1897, the business was taken over and held by the Coy family until 1986 when it was acquired by Advanta Seeds. [Mark Matlatch, Commercial Overprints]
However “Sharpe Charles & Co. seed merchants, Old Sleaford” is recorded in the Post Office Directory of Lincolnshire, 1868 - Page 274. Also “Sharpe Charles & Co. seed merchants, 97 Westgate; and Sleaford; William Bemrose, manager” in the Grantham section of White's History, Gazetteer & Directory of Lincolnshire, 1872 p.676. Also in 1885 Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire
