Not a Seal, Fall of Man Badge, Image & Found by Johnniepk.
From Nap, "It is a 'Fall of Man' badge. Not a pilgrim badge (which are always linked to a specific shrine) but a secular badge. It may have been sewn on as a button but more likely worn as a hat badge, which would be more 'cocky'.
In the 1500's - this badge is mid 1500's - there were many secular badges that were used as a mirror to religious iconography .. right on the edge of blasphemy ... their outer meaning was 'religious' but their true meaning meant that the wearer had reverse beliefs - in the case of 'Fall of Man' the wearer would be making it plain that they were open to temptation (sexual temptation).
Really cool find. It would most likely have been brightly painted when new.
p.s. No mention of an Apple in Genesis."
