French, Champagne Seal, Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Seal
Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Seals, Image & Found by Derfel.
Found on the Thames foreshaw, 12 x 16mm.
Two lozenge shaped seals with VCP in a diamond shaped border of pellets. The other side is blank and both have a rusted extension from one corner which is probably all that remains of a wire binding.
From Paul Cannon, "I believe this is a champagne seal for the French champagne house of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin which is based in Reims. For a history of the firm see Veuve Clicquot. The following link to a French website (amongst the section on champagne seals) includes a lozenge shaped seal of the same type Plomb de muselet Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin."
