Stephen Pettifer and Son, Malmesbury

Stephen Pettifer and Son, Malmesbury, Image & Found by Ross Jenkins.
Found in Shrewsbury, 22mm.

Shepherd, REGISTERED TRADE MARK around // 5 petaled flower, (S)TE(P)HEN PETTIFER (&) SO(N) / (..M)ALMESBU(RY) around

Identified by Paul Cannon, "The seal reads STEPHEN PETTIFER & SON, MALMESBURY around a 5 petaled flower. The other face reads REGISTERED TRADE MARK around an oval containing a standing male figure holding a sheep on his shoulders. At his feet, two sheep are standing to the left and one sheep to the right. He probably represents a shepherd.
The Banbury Guardian of 11 January 1894 (p2) contains an advert for the firm of Stephen Pettifer and Son, Crudwell Veterinary Establishment, Malmesbury, Wilts. According to this the firm produced ‘ “Herbal Tonic” or Flockmaster’s Friend (Reg.), the World’s Standard Sheep Medicine’. The advert also illustrates the same image of a shepherd carrying a sheep with three sheep at his feet. Around the image of the shepherd reads ‘Each package of Stephen Pettifer & Sons Veterinary Specialities bears the following or is not genuine’. This presumably refers to the lead seal found by Ross Jenkins and shows how it was used".
