French, Bayonne Seal

Beyonne Seal, Image by StuE, Found by Mrs George Angel Eyes Clooney.
Found in Yorkshire, 24mm, 46.3g.

A heavy, thick seal deeply stamped on one side with a border of pellets raised across the centre of which is an oblong block with the letters BAYONNE Above and below this block is an unclear ornate motif. The other side has traces of a smaller circular border of pellets with letters around the outside of which only ON can be made out. There are two large holes in the side and slit opposite these holes indicating the location attachment cord of this bulla type seal.

From Wikipedia "Bayonne is a city and commune in south-western France at the confluence of the Nive and Adour rivers, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department, of which it is a sub-prefecture."
