Cloth Seal, Coat of Arms, ER

Cloth Seal, Portsmouth Seal, Three Crescents & Star, Image & Found by Derfel.
Found on the Thames foreshore, 34 x 20mm.

Shield bearing three crescents around a five pointed star, (E)R above // corners of a madderbag ?

A two disc cloth seal with broken connecting strip showing arms that include the star above a crescent featured in the arms of Southampton but with three crescents as found in the arms of William de Longchamp.

Michel Royer found the following in the Encyclopædia Britannica, 1780, p.3599, Heraldry, Example of Celestial Figures, 19, "Gules, a Mullet between three crefcents Argent;" borne by the name of Oliver.

First initial above the shield is an E from seal bearing the same arms also found by Derfel.

Probably a dye worker's personal seal, possibly descended from de Longchamp.

A suggestion by Mark Alliston - British Armorial Bindings Lee, Frederick George (1832 - 1902) A fess between three crescents a mullet for difference.
