Flour Bag Seal, Belbens of Poole, Fines, Image & Found by Ossie.
Found in Dorset.
One side has BELBEN curving slightly downwards across the top half and POOLE curving slightly upwards across the bottom half. Possibly OF between the two. The other side has FINES straight across the centre.
There was a Belbens in Dorset known for light haulage etc. but no connection to this seal is known.
Fines are used in the brewing industry but it is also used to refer to milled flour.
From a private communication with Paul Cannon, "For an image of Belben Steam Flour Mills, Poole see The Mills Archive, (at bottom of page). I believe the terms 'pastry' and 'fines' do refer to different types of flour."
