Cloth Seal, French, Blanches Etrangeres Seal

Cloth Seal, French, Blanches Etrangeres Seal, Image & Found by Glenn Holton.
Found in Charleston, South Carolina, ?mm.

Crown over fleur-de-lis four pellets to sides, TOIL. DE COT. BLANCHES ETRANGERES around // missing, cloth weave imprint on reverse of rivet disc.

Identified by Michel Royer, "Lead seal of the type "TOIL. DE COT. BLANCHES ETRANGERES", missing the reverse which indicated the name of the office. These Leads were created following the patent letters of September 5, 1759 which authorized the entry of white cotton fabrics into the territory of the Kingdom of France. A judgment of July 1785 again prohibited the entry of foreign canvases, these seals are therefore dated between 1759 and 1785."
