From Paul Cannon, "I believe 'Messrs D Martineau and Sons' were major sugar refiners in London during the 19th century. See 'Free Trade in Sugar: a Reply to Sir Thomas Farrer' by George Martineau (1889), bottom of page 148. The same list of London sugar refiners includes H Tate & Sons and examples of their seals are also recorded on Bagseals."
Actual extract:- "Member of the Executive of the London Workmen's Anti-Sugar-Bounty Association, representing all the operatives of the sugar refineries now remaining at work in London and in London suburbs, viz. :— Messrs. H.Tate and Sons, Thames Sugar Refinery, Silvertown, Essex; Messrs. A. Lyle and Sons, Plaistow Wharf Sugar Refinery, Silvertown, Essex; Messrs. D. Martineau and Sons, St. George's East, London; Messrs. L. Cowan and Sons, Hammersmith, London, S.W. Thames Sugar Refinery, Silvertown, Essex, Oct. 6."
