TRADE / NORTHPOLE / MARK // partial sun rising above globe with cross at top & LR? on globe at base of cross

From Paul Cannon, "I believe this link depicts a virtually identical trade mark as on the seal Petroliana.co.uk. The trade mark here consists of a tall sign post stood at the top of the globe/world, ie the north pole, with a rising sun behind (but no rays). Below the post and across the globe are the letters ‘L R C’. The tin identifies these as Leicester Rubber Company (Ltd) and the tin contained joining pins used with a patented tyre produced by the company. For a short history of the company see Grace's Guide To British Industrial History - Leicester Rubber Co. From several of the advertising items on Grace’s Guide see Grace's Guide To British Industrial History -John Bull & The North Pole Man. this suggests that the North Pole brand was associated with pram tyres whereas the John Bull brand was related to cycle and motorcycle tyres etc. Either way the seal appears to be related to rubber tyres prior to 1934 when the company name changed to John Bull Rubber Co Ltd."
