Cloth Seal, Dutch, Schermerhorn

Cloth Seal, Dutch, Schermerhorn, Image & Found by Peter Eggers.
Found in De Rijp, Holland, 16mm, 7.3g.

Mole // O

From the finder, "a rare lead seal from a neighboring village: Schermerhorn, on the North side of the former Schermer Island ( 17th C ) where up on De Rijp is also located.
Diam: 16,2 mm, weight 7,26 gr. Frontside a mole, the municipal coat of arms from Schermerhorn, the other side : to me it’s just an O , the other things are parts of the pin that went trough the hole. Dating : first quarter 17th C. I assume that the seal was meant for the quality of fishing-nets from that village. Found in De Rijp and determined by Jan den Das.
Schermerhorn had it’s own harbour and herring fishing fleet until 1634 but due to the reclamation of the large lakes in North Holland that fishery gradually stopped."
