Cloth Seal, Cloth Worker's Personal Seal, Privy Mark, BD, Image & Found by Christiaan Smit.
Found in Braunston, Rutland, 18mm.
Privy mark incorporating B D to sides (joined to base), 5 pointed star below and P stamped on the connecting strip // P? R / Y deeply incuse
A cloth worker's personal seal. The P on the connecting strip may have faint letters or images to the sides? The P on the other side maybe an inverted 6 or 9. The two holes on the connecting strip are unusual.
Tentative dating of late eighteenth century to early nineteenth is based on style - see No.220, Fig.31, Geoff Egan, 'Lead cloth seals and related items in the B.M. (B.M. Occasional Paper 93)' - "Clothiers', weavers' & searchers' seals with privy marks etc."
See parallel seal - BSG.CS.00582 with same inverted 6 or 9.
