Cloth Seal, Bird, Crown, Seal, Image & Found by Andrew Goldson.
Found in North Suffolk, 10mm.
Missing // crown over bird of prey rising (bells on legs) // K (?) / S R? / 16 (or possibly IG) // missing
The inner discs from a four-disc alnage seal, see BSG.CS.01095 for a parallel to this seal including one inner and the rivet disc.
These were considered as possible Norwich bird, cloth seals but the crown and the four-disc construction make this unlikely. (For a series of Norwich seals featuring birds often with wings addorsed see UKDFD 12704, which is a parallel to No.92 Fig.22 [Egan, G., 1995, p.49]. Also from this work are seals from Braintree and Bocking (nos. 474 & 4533) with birds of prey rising, the latter with bells on legs, p.96, but these are large diameter seals, over 45mm. See also MOL 80.121/5, 95.228/48 and 95.228/61. MOL 81.522/2 has a clipped rivet disc stamped with a bird, wings addorsed and the rove disc and rivet stub are stamped with TO / (S)HO(RT).)
