ARTE Seal, Image by StuE, Found by Sue Clark.
Found in Essex / Suffolk border area, 20mm.
In the middle the word ARTE is written with the letter E above. Curved around the right hand edge are the letters ANTICHITA possibly with a letter S before. A five pointed star then separates it from the next word curving up the left edge - ES are the only letters discernible. The other side has in the centre the letters DI above C?OIP?-- . Could also be an R.H ? curved above.
From Paul Cannon, "I can't be absolutely sure but I wonder if the inscription on the left can be reconstructed as 'ES[PORTAZIONE ?DI] ANTICHITA E ARTE' ie export (of) antiquities and art. The language is clearly Italian but unfortunately the right hand image is unclear. Perhaps this seal was attached to a crate containing objects which were legally leaving Italy in the late 19th/early 20th century."
