Alexander Cross & Sons were seed merchants selling seeds which included flax, ryegrass, clover, tares, turnip and grain and were advertising in the Glasgow Herald in 1852. A letter head from 1878 shows they had premises at Hope Buildings, 19 Hope Street, Glasgow. The Cross Trust was founded in 1943 by Sir Alexander Cross, "the grandson of William Cross, the senior partner of the well known seed merchants and chemical manufacturers, Alexander Cross & Sons."
