Cloth Seal, Coventry Alnage
Cloth Seal, Coventry Alnage, Image & Found by Moochin Jay Moos
Found in Gloucestershire, 24mm, 8.3g.
Arms of England on crowned ornate shield, rose and sun to sides, (S'VLNAGII PANNOR')IN COM COVEN(TRI?) around // centre of stamp largely obscured by rivet stub folding over (crown), inscription around of which only S remains legible
Coventry is suggested for this seal, however the worn Lombardic script requires parallels for certainty.
Possibly from the crown over rose series of county alnage seals dated to 15th century, see Egan 1987, p.39 or maybe the crown over sun, fleur-de-lis and rose [Egan, G., 1987, p.38], also dated to the late 15th century.
