Seed Merchants, Jarman & Co Seal

Jarman & Co Seal, Image & Found by Old Man.
Found within a 3 mile radius of Colyton in Devon, 22x18mm, 9.5g, and 23x20mm, 16.1g.

Two seals of the same type found in the same location. One side has JARMAN & Co curving downwards at the top, CHARD straight across the middle and SOMERSET curving upwards at the bottom. The other side has TRADE MARK / REGISTERED curving upwards at the bottom below a gridded globe on which is inscribed PEOPLES / SEEDSMAN.

An Invoice dated 1905 from JARMAN & CO (Proprietor A.E.TOWNSEND) CHARD (Somerset) Seed Growers & Merchants Nurseryman &c was advertised on Ebay which stated 'Every description of vegetable & flower seeds, agricultural grass & root seeds, Dutch flower roots & all kinds of nursery stock. ... Awarded only gold medal for seeds, International Exhibition, London, 1892."

A search on the net for Jarman in Chard brings up the following:-
"Townsend -v- Jarman [1900] 2 Ch 698 1900
Farwell J Company, Contract Casemap. 1 Citers. A partner gave a covenant not to carry on the business of a corn, seed or manure merchant or nurseryman within a distance of 40 miles from Chard. The partners sold the business to a company, of which they remained directors. It was wound up, and the goodwill sold to Mr Townsend. Held. The benefit of the restrictive covenant passed as incident to the goodwill. Where there is a sale of the goodwill of a business, an assignment of a restrictive covenant will be implied, if it is not expressly excluded."

It therefore seems that the business included being a merchant for corn, seed and manure and a nurseryman.
