Cloth Seal, Cloth Worker's Personal Seal, Privy Mark, 1600~1725
Cloth Seal, Privy Marked Seal, Image & Found by Derfel.
Found on the Thames foreshore, 21 x 17mm.
Border of a rope circle around a continuous raised line circle with scattered pellets and an unusual, possibly foreign privy mark in the centre. Some similarity to privy marks on one part dyers' seals - see fig.37 Geoff Egan, Lead cloth seals and related items in the B.M. (B.M.occ.papers 93), especially No.285 (& No.278 for berries from a grain tree).
