Cloth Seal, Coat of Arms, Turner

Cloth Seal, Turner Coat of Arms, Image & Found by Paulsamfreya.
Found near Bristol, 29mm.

Possible disc from a cloth seal showing the crest of the Turner or Turnor Family consisting of lion passant gardant holding in dexter paw a millrind or fer de moline (the ironwork that supports a moving millstone) above shield of nine sections bearing alternate fer de moline and ermine with motto below ESS[E QUA]M VIDE[RI] - 'To be rather than seem to be'.

A clearer version of the shield can be seen on Paul Dwight Turner's Family History but the motto beneath differs.

From Michel Royer - Antique historique - coat of arms, crest, Irish Earl Winterton, motto/slogan: Esse Quam Videri.
