Cloth Seal, German, Ulm, Ox
Cloth Seal, German, Arms of Ulm, Ox, Image & Found by Batz52
Found in Bedfordshire, 17mm.
Demi-ox with V above head // missing but rivet stub stamped with shield per fess, in chief 4x2 lattice with pellets in each void, in base blank
The rivet disc from a cloth seal stamped with the front half an ox with V above, probably for Ulm. The rove disc and connecting strip is missing but the rivet stub retains the partial stamp of shield bearing the arms of Ulm in Germany, where the black is represented by the lattice.
Fustians from Swabia (which includes Ulm and Augsburg) are reported as having four types of quality symbols stamped on their seals, an ox, a lion, a grape or a letter [Baur, K., 2015, p.154].
A more complete example of this seal can be seen at PAS LEIC-167F56.
