Italian, Palermo, Sicilian Sumac, Graziano Seal

GRAZIANO / PALERMO // man in an apron and hat with stick superimposed at the centre of a triskel.

Most likely connected to a food product of some sort.

From a private communication with Paul Cannon, "From a group of other seals on the Bagseals website (all unambiguously naming their product as 'sumac') but in particular a link to an obscure publication by F P Veitch (1908) given by yourself, I feel I can confidently suggest that the unidentified 'Graziano' seals of Palermo, also relate to the sumac trade. Sumac being a high quality vegetable tanning agent. At the beginning of the 20th century there were concerns about the adulterants that were being added to Sicilian sumac by its producers. As a result, a major analyses of hundreds of sumac samples took place, which were published in 1908 by Veitchi. This contains the names of many of the actual Sicilian sumac producers. Amongst them are recorded:
Paulo Graziano, Palermo [Veitch, Table II, samples 139; 143 & 193, pp 12-14]
A & E Graziano, Palermo [Veitch, Table II, samples 340; 345 & 352, pp 16-17].
I am as certain as I can be that the [this example] plus the one from the PAS website all relate to the 'sumac' trade and bear the name of members of the Graziano family referred to by Veitch.
