Hassall Chester & Foulkes Seal, Image & Found by Ianexplorer.
Found on the outskirts of Chester.
Both sides have the same three names:- 'HASSALL' curved across the top 'CHESTER' straight across the middle and '& FOULKES' curved along the bottom. This is a more oval seal in comparison to others of this type that have been recorded.
They are all town names in Cheshire but no company or produce has been connected for certain with this seal but see below.
From Paul cannon, "The following is from The Chester Chronicle of 9 August 1851:
"One of the most flourishing businesses of the City of Chester is its wine trade and few persons we believe form an accurate idea of its extent and its importance. The arrival of the brigantine Charles Souchay, Captain Thomas, with 150 pipes and 20 hogheads from Oporto, this week, for Messrs. Hassall and Foulkes is a circumstance of local interest. The stock in their immense bonded vaults is equal, we understand to that of any private house in the kingdom."
