Cloth Seal, Bale Seal?, Yorkshire, Stuart Arms, P, Image & Held by Michel Royer.
Found in Gdansk / Danzig region, 22 mm (30 mm with the fastener), 4.1g.
P, (COM E)BORVM in annulus of pellets (double stamped) // Stuart arms of Britain, I? to right (loop attached near harp)
Another example of this unusual type of cloth seal. See BSG.CS.00637 and BSG.CS.00301.
This reading of EBORUM is confirms by another example of this seal that clearly shows the county name to be EBORVM (B 1071 Bankhead forthcoming publication). The example above shows that there was a complete loop at the top. It suggests that this type was attached to the cloth buy a tye through the loop. Possibly for ease of attachment to wrapped bales.
See 1387 p.306 vol.1 and p.410 vol II in Loden zegels en verzegelingen by Raf Van Laere, 2019 for another example.
