Czernowitz is the German name for the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi. The large O on the other side usually denotes a grade of flour and can be found on many known flourbag seals.

From Paul Cannon, "I believe this is a picture of the mill relating to the seal. See Schlossmann’s Mill. The postcard reads “Gruss aus Czernowitz – Pruthtal mit Schlossmann’scher Mühle” which I believe can be translated as ‘Greetings from Czernowitz – Pruth Valley with Schlossmann’s Mill’. The River Pruth/Prut passes through Czernowitz. I think the text on the post card provides the missing inscription from the seal ie SCHLOSSMANN / CZERNOVITZ. The mill was clearly a steam mill. According to the Russian text the mill was built in 1865-1866. A. Schlossmann & Co were responsible for the steam mill at Czernowitz. The name of the company was Ersten Bukowinaer Dampfmühlen [First Bukovina Steam Mills] which was a joint stock company. A. Schlossmann & Co.*"
