10 stamped other numbers scratched // missing but part of the United East India Company's mark stamped on the rivet stub

The company's mark consists of a 4 in the cleft of a heart with an E in the right section, a V above a C in the middle section and an I in the left section. The C and bottom of the I can be seen on the seal above.

"The Company was established under this name in 1708, and traded not only with India, but also with China and much of the rest of Asia, including the areas now comprising Malaysia and Indonesia. ... [The] figures probably refer to length/weight, or maybe consignment numbers."

The four main types of seals used by the company can be seen at D. Petts 2003 'Review of The Earl of Abergavenny. Historical Record and Wreck Excavation CD-Rom', Internet Archaeology 14.

Another example can be seen in the National Maritime Museum, Object ID ZBA0441.
