Italian, Palermo, Sicilian Sumac Society Seal, Image & Found by Jeb.
Found in Wales
One side has PALERMO across the middle (the P is missing), above and below is a motif of a star with a pellet either side and around it all is a dotted circular border. This border is evident on the other side on the tag section only. Inside the border is written in concentric circles - SOCIETA.PER L'ESPOR(T?)(I?)L DEI SOMMACCHI SICILI
From a private communication with Paul Cannon, "I believe that the long inscription on this seal reads 'SOCIETA PER L'ESPORTAZIONE DEI SOMMACCHI DI SICILIA' ie 'Society for the Export of Sicilian Sumac'. Sommacchi is the plural form of sommacco, Italian for sumac, proof that this seal also relates to the sumac trade. This society was founded by the industrialist Ignazio Florio of Palermo see A day off at the Piazza Ignazio Florio."
