Cloth Seal, Alnage, Subsidy Seal, Image by StuE, Found by Anne Laverty. Found in Somerset between Bristol and Exeter, 22 x 11mm, 4.3g. Blank // shield bearing voided cross, SVBSIDIE SEALE around // blank // blank The voided cross can be seen on the London coat of arms but that has a sword in the first quadrant. Some Continental seals have a similar design but the inscription confirms it is an English alnage subsidy seal. Probably from the Interregnum.
