Cloth Seal, Dutch, Naarden

Cloth Seal, Dutch, Naarden, Image & Found by Carina Mia Boese.
Found in Denmark, 17mm?

Double headed eagle displayed // Lombardic letter N inscription around

A two-disc cloth seal from the Dutch city of Naarden. The eagle is from the city's coat of arms. Naarden is a municipality and a town in the Gooi region in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. Naarden is an example of a star fort, complete with fortified walls and a moat. The moat and walls have been restored and are currently in excellent condition. Naarden was granted its city rights in 1300 (the only town in Het Gooi to have been done so) and later developed into a fortified garrison town with a textile industry.

See Anton Cruysheeren & OlafLangendorjf, Loden van de textielstad Naarden, 2014, for a description of the cloth seals from Naarden.

See another example here.

A seal with a very similar N but crowned and with three pellets to the left is shown in Egan, Geoff, Cloth Seals, p.43-86 in Salisbury & South Wiltshire Museum Medieval Catalogue, Part 3, ed. Peter Saunders, 2001, no.21, Fig.20. It is not identified.
