Cloth Seal, Norwich, Castle, Image & Found by John Brassey.
Found in Suffolk, 27mm.
Three-towered castle, lion passant gardant below, C N(retrograde) to sides, (CIVITATIS) N(ORWICI) around // missing (double rivet)
A two disc cloth seal for Norwich. The C N either side of Norwich castle also stands for its name in Latin Civitatis Norwici. The missing disc normally has a crowned portcullis again with CIVITATIS NORWICI around, which suggests they are alnage seals.
See Egan 1994, No. 70, which suggests they date from late 16th to early 17th century.
