Cloth Seal, Leeds, Clothier's Seal, Willans & Son, Image & Found by Eddie T-Hunter. Found in Northern Ireland, ?mm. 5087 / 44 (scratched) // suspended fleece (hanging ram), ... WILLANS & S(ON) Willans & Son or Sons were probably clothiers based in or near Leeds. The scratched numbers are common on cloth seals but the values seem to be unique to Leeds cloth seals i.e. a very large first number and the second usually in the 30s or 40s. The suspended sheep or ram represents a wool fleece which is part of the coat of arms of Leeds City. It is probably the seal of a Leeds clothier perhaps from the eighteenth or early nineteenth century from the style of the lettering.
