The sea bread In the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries, the maritime vocation of Dunkirk confirms and several food-processing industries arise from the necessity of supplying with foods crews leaving for long expeditions or for distant fishing seasons. This is the way appear the first factories of biscuits said about sea. The Fichaux flour-mill, based in 1856 by Louis Adolphe Fichaux and Daniel Garin kicks of the Glass factory, produced four tons a day. Food rich and keeping relatively well, this "sea bread became the basic element of the daily ration of the sailors. Before the departure for Iceland, the captains so put back some bricks to each of their men. Present in all the French ports, this activity is at the origin of the development of the big contemporary cookie factories - Sea biscuit, Wikipedia."
