Cloth Seal, Clothier's Seal, Tiverton, George Osmond

Cloth Seal, Clothier's Seal, Tiverton, George Osmond, Image & Held by Michel Royer.
Purchased from the Netherlands, ?mm.

Privy mark with foot S F beneath, SAML BURRIDGE TIVERTON around // 22 / GO

A Tiverton cloth seal for George Osmond using the Samuel Burridge trade mark.

Evans Type 2.8.3, in use by George Osmond (trading 1732 to 1744). See TIVERTON CLOTH, The Story of the Town’s Woollen Trade 1475–1815 by Peter Maunder p.401. (1734 was probably the date he took over the 'Saml Burridge Foot' stamp and added GO).

This and other Tiverton seals were taken from Michel Royer's Euro-Plombs.

The fullest collection of Tiverton cloth seals (about thirty) is on permanent display in Tiverton Museum.
