Cloth Seal, Clothier's Seal, Tiverton, Theodore Wilson

Cloth Seal, Clothier's Seal, Tiverton, Theodore Wilson, Image & Held by Michel Royer.
Found in Amsterdam (in urban works), Netherlands, 22mm.

E / T 21 1/2 R / star // two multi-leave sprigs, TH... WILSON around

Originally recorded on Euro-Plombs.

From Peter Maunder. "The Fox archive document tells what seals were being used in 1754, and it is clear that the Enchmarch family used Theodore Wilson too.
The initials on the rivet disc are interesting, and it seems very likely that the "E" is for Enchmarch, T and ?R below being Thomas and Richard, either side of the 21 1/2.
Thomas and Richard Enchmarch were trading between 1770 and 1780."

A new 5.4. type, see Jane Evans' catalogue published as an appendix to Peter Maunder’s comprehensive history of the Tiverton cloth trade.

Other Theodor Wilson (a fictious trading name) seals are shown as No.79 & 80 Fig.8 p.408, Maunder, P., Tiverton Cloth: The Story of the Town's Woollen Trade 1475 - 1815. See also BSG.CS.01318.

The fullest collection of Tiverton cloth seals (about thirty) is on permanent display in Tiverton Museum.
