Hungarian, Flour Bag Seal, Bernhard Back Söhne, 000
Bernhard Back Söhne Seal, Image & Found by Alloverover.
Found in England, ?mm.
Three zeros are positioned in radial symmetry on one side. The other has four lines of writing, two straight across the middle and one curved above and below. Possibly BACK????? / FIAI / OZMA / S???
From Paul Cannon, "This seems to be a Hungarian flour seal with inscriptions in Hungarian. My suggestions are that this can be read and reconstructed as:
BACK [BERNÁT] = Bernard Back
FIAI = sons
[G]ŐZMA[LOM] = steam mill
[SZEGED] = Szeged (city in southern Hungary)
There is a complimentary seal to this on Bagseals Bernhard Back Söhne, Flour Bag Seal, Image & Found by Lancastrian where all the inscriptions are in German. In the Hungarian language the family/surname is written first hence the different name order in both seals. The company of Bernard Back & Sons were a major player in the Hungarian mill industry Back Bernát, from Wikipedia."
