Flour Bag Seal, Belbens, Poole, Image & Found by Coinhunteruk, Image & Found by Coinhunteruk.
Found in East Dorset near Poole, 19mm, 6.0g.
PASTRY printed on one side, BELBEN / POOLE on the other with a dash dot dash design between.
The word PASTRY is found on this seal in the same position as FINES is found on all others of this type so far recorded. This leans towards the flour industry than the brewing one.
From a private communication with Paul Cannon, "For an image of Belben Steam Flour Mills, Poole see The Mills Archive, (at bottom of page). I believe the terms 'pastry' and 'fines' do refer to different types of flour."
See Belben's Steam Flour Mills in Poole.
An invoice to Mr Charles Stay of Kimberley House, Castlemain Road, dated 1903. From G & T Belben, Steam Flour Mills, The Quay, Poole, Dorset - can be found on flickr.
"Another major war time casualty was the well known Belbens Flour Mill, which was one of the warehouses that dominated the central quay, near the High Street, which burnt down during WWII." Town Centre Heritage Part 2 Character Statement - Appendix 2, Planning & Regeneration Services inc Building Consultancy, 2011.
