The inscription reads FERTILITAS ACTIEN GESELLSC(HAFT) SCHALKE ie Fertilitas Joint Stock Company Schalke. Schalke is a municipality in the German State of North-Rhine Westphalia. According to Ludwig Beck's book, Die Geschichte des Eisens in Technischer und Kulturgeschichticher Beziehung, Vol 5 (1903) p1008, in 1884, the Fertilitas company set up two factories for the production of fertilisers from slag. These were in Stollberg near Aachen and Schalke, Westphalia."
