See JG Cooymans and Son: Branderijstraat, "In his spare time, Johannes Gerardus is involved in the preparation of all kinds of refined liqueurs and herbal bitters according to self-devised recipes. He is also the first to experiment with eggs and brandy and so he becomes the inventor of the world famous 'advocaat' - a golden yellow, creamy drink that you can spoon out of a glass. ... in 1828 he decided to sell his bakery and drapery business and to start a trade in drinks of his own manufacture. Four years later he founded the company JG Cooymans & Son together with his son Adrianus. (In 1972 the company is renamed Koninklijke Cooymans)."
