Cloth Seal, London Dyers Company Two Disc Seal, Privy Mark, S IP, 1616 onward, Image & Found by James Crombie
Found in Yorkshire, 21mm.
Privy mark not fully visible but includes cross with S on its vertical upright and XX possibly with the letters I & P to sides at its base. Unusually the date 16 (16?) appears to be to the sides of the S. The rivet head shows a madderbag.
The madderbag suggests this is the seal of a cloth dyer who belongs to the London Dyers Company. See London Dyers Company seals. It is quite rare to find a date on a privy mark.
