Spillers & Bakers, Cardiff Seal
Spillers & Bakers, Cardiff Seal, Image & Found by Stig.
Found in Gwent region.
FINES written in raised letters across the centre of one side and CARDIFF across the centre of the other side. A circular border of the following letters surrounds Cardiff:- (C?)ER??---ERS(L?)(E?)?? S?(L?)?
From Stig - "looking closely at the seal through a loop the inscription round the word `Cardiff` looks like : L??? SELLERS & MAKERS."
From Paul Cannon,"Whilst I can't be absolutely sure I wonder if this reads SPILLERS & BAKERS LTD / CARDIFF with FINES on the other face. For another similar (but different) seal see Spillers Seal, Found by Guildy. Spillers have a long history of involvement in the milling industry and I believe 'fines' on the seal refers to a grade of flour. For a more detailed history of the firm going back to 1832 see Spillers Mills, Buchanan's Wharf, Redcliff BS1 by Paul Townsend. Spillers bought out a number of other milling businesses and were themselves acquired so there is a complex series of name changes."
