Cloth Seal, Cloth Worker's Personal Seal, Heraldic Device, Griffin, 1575~1700
Griffin Seal, Image by StuE, Found by JCMaloney.
Found in Wymeswold Parish, Leicestershire.
A winged four legged animal, probably a griffin although possibly Pegasus, with the letter G at its rear. The other side is blank except for a circular line - O?
Colchester Dutch immigrant community used the griffin on some of their cloth seals but it also seems to fit in with a series grouped together and attributed to cloth workers in Geoff Egan, Lead cloth seals and related items in the B.M. (B.M. Occasional Paper 93), p.88.
